SIR: Deadline for Claims and Objections Extended to October 12; BLOs to Collect Documents from Voters’ Homes

Pune, Correspondent

The deadline for filing claims and objections under the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been extended to October 12, 2026. Voters who have received notices due to “no mapping” or logical discrepancies will not be required to personally visit the tehsil office to submit the necessary documents. The concerned Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit voters’ homes and collect the required documents.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi said the extension provides eligible voters another opportunity to register their names, make corrections to electoral-roll details and file objections.

Voters who have received notices because of logical discrepancies in their electoral-roll records need not crowd the tehsil office, Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) office or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) office for hearings. They should keep the required documents ready, and the concerned BLOs will visit their homes to collect them. Depending on the facilities available, documents may also be submitted through WhatsApp or online platforms.

Cases will be processed on the basis of the documents submitted, the BLO’s report or a panchnama prepared in connection with the discrepancy. If documents are incomplete, online hearings may be facilitated in exceptional cases, wherever necessary.

Special Camps on October 3, 4, 10 and 11

To ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral roll during the extended period, special camps will be organised at all polling stations across the district on October 3, 4, 10 and 11, 2026.

The concerned BLOs will be available at these camps. Voters will be able to verify their names in the draft electoral roll, submit Form 6 for new voter registration, file Form 8 for corrections to electoral-roll details, and submit the required documents if they have received an SIR notice.

Online Facilities Also Available

Voters can search for their names in the draft electoral roll, submit Form 6 for new registration and file Form 8 online for corrections to electoral-roll information. The Election Commission of India’s Voter Helpline app can be used for these services.

For further information regarding the SIR exercise, notices, voter registration and special camps, citizens can contact the 1950 toll-free helpline.

Registration Drives in Colleges from October 5 to 9

Online voter registration for eligible students will be conducted in junior and senior colleges from October 5 to 9, 2026. In addition, voter awareness and special registration drives will be conducted until October 12 at industrial establishments, companies, factories and various institutions to increase voter registration among eligible citizens.

The district administration is taking necessary measures to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral roll. District Collector Jitendra Dudi appealed to voters who have received notices not to panic or crowd tehsil offices, but instead contact the concerned BLO, make use of the special camps and online facilities, and refrain from believing or spreading rumours.
