Dr. Nikhil M. Gandhi, a renowned ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon from Akluj, has brought international recognition to the town by winning the ‘Young Ophthalmologist Video Award’ at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) 2026, one of the world’s leading conferences in ophthalmology, held in London.
Dr. Gandhi, Director of Anupam Eye Hospital and Laser Centre, Akluj, has been practising in the field of cataract and ophthalmic surgery for several years. The London conference brought together thousands of ophthalmologists, eye surgeons and researchers from across the world. The event featured presentations on advanced technologies, new research and complex surgical procedures.
At the international forum, Dr. Gandhi presented a surgical video that was selected as the Best Video by the panel of judges. His technical expertise, innovative surgical approach and focus on patient care were recognised in the award.
Dr. Gandhi is known not only for his contribution to patient care but also for his involvement in medical research, academic activities and national and international ophthalmology conferences. Working from a rural region, he has been providing advanced eye-care facilities and technology to thousands of patients in and around Akluj.
