Sangli District Collector Inspects Drought-Affected Areas

Crop damage assessment has begun in Miraj, Atpadi, Jat and Kavathe-Mahankal talukas after Trigger-1 (First Trigger) was declared applicable during the Kharif 2026 season. District Collector Dr. Mainak Ghosh has directed the concerned officials and staff to conduct accurate and objective crop damage assessments and complete the process on a priority basis within 10 days.

As part of the assessment of the drought situation, Dr. Ghosh personally visited Kavathe-Mahankal taluka and inspected farms in Kuchi and Kerewadi. He interacted with farmers and gathered information about the present condition of crops, sowing, expenditure incurred, crop losses and difficulties being faced by them.

Instructions for Accurate Farm-Level Assessment

The District Collector directed the Revenue and Agriculture Department officials to ensure that there are no errors in crop inspections and damage records. Officials have been instructed to record farm-wise details, including the area under cultivation, sowing date, present crop condition and extent of damage, based on actual field inspections.

He also directed officials to complete the necessary process on time so that eligible farmers can receive assistance and benefits under the prevailing government norms and schemes.

Crops Withering Due to Inadequate Rainfall

Dr. Ghosh inspected the crops of Nanaso Vasant Patil of Kuchi and Amir Hasim Mulla of Kerewadi. During the inspection, it was observed that inadequate rainfall and lack of moisture had affected crop growth, with crops withering in some areas.

The farmers briefed the Collector about the expenditure incurred on land preparation, sowing, seeds, fertilisers and labour, as well as the losses caused by the deficient rainfall.

Tankers to Be Provided in Water-Scarce Areas

Dr. Ghosh also directed officials to arrange water tankers wherever drinking water shortage is reported.

Miraj Sub-Divisional Officer Vishal Yadav, Kavathe-Mahankal Tehsildar Archana Kapse, Taluka Agriculture Officer Ramesh Bhandare, Resident Naib Tehsildar Sanjay Pawar, along with Revenue and Agriculture Department officials, Talathis and farmers, were present during the inspection.
