PMC Elections: Draft Reservation Lottery Approved by State Election Commission
The State Election Commission has given its consent to the preliminary reservation draft for the Pune Municipal Corporation's upcoming elections
The draft reservation lottery for the Pune Municipal Corporation's upcoming elections has been approved by the State Election Commission. The election will involve 165 councilors to be elected across 41 wards. Forty of these wards are four-member constituencies, while Ward No. 38 (Ambegaon-Katraj) is a five-member constituency.
PUNE, 16 NOV. The State Election Commission has officially granted its approval to the draft reservation lottery drawn for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections. This decision is a crucial step in the electoral process, after which the final reservation for the wards will be finalized only following a thorough hearing on all objections and suggestions received from the public.
For the forthcoming municipal elections, the total number of corporator seats has been set at 165, distributed across 41 electoral wards (Prabhags). Among these, 40 wards are four-member constituencies. However, Ward No. 38, which covers the Ambegaon - Katraj area, is structured as a five-member constituency.
The draft reservation lottery was publicly announced at the Ganesh Kala Krida Manch on Tuesday, November 11. In adherence to norms, 50% of the total 165 corporator seats have been reserved for women. This translates to a division where 83 seats are allocated for women corporators and 82 seats for men corporators, determined through the lottery.
Furthermore, reservations have been allocated across various categories:
-
Scheduled Castes (SC): 22 seats
-
Scheduled Tribes (ST): 2 seats
-
Other Backward Classes (OBC): 44 seats
With the State Election Commission's acceptance of this draft lottery, the process now moves to the next stage where citizen feedback will be formally addressed before the ward reservations are declared as final.
