PUNE, 21 NOV. In view of the increasing number of accidents in the Navale Bridge area, a decision has been taken to conduct a technical study and investigation of this dangerous stretch, enlisting the help of the 'IIT Delhi' (Indian Institute of Technology). Following directives from the Road Safety Committee in this regard, the District Administration has initiated the necessary procedures. The draft proposal will be sent to 'IIT Delhi' within the next one or two days.
The steep slope and the specific road geometry between the new Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge have led to a continuous increase in the number of accidents in this area over the past few years. IIT Delhi's assistance will be sought to precisely identify the engineering faults that are truly responsible for the frequent accidents.
The investigation will thoroughly examine whether the severity of the road's slope complies with the standards set by the 'IRC' (Indian Road Congress), and if necessary measures have been implemented at dangerous curves. Furthermore, the study will check for any flaws in traffic management at points where heavy and light vehicles merge. The efficiency of the vehicles' braking systems on the road and whether drivers are given sufficient time to apply the brakes will also be key aspects of this in-depth investigation.
