PUNE, 3 NOV. The mystery behind the murder of autorickshaw driver Ganesh Kale in Pune has been solved, bringing the 'minor pattern' back into the discussion, with investigations ongoing to determine who gave the contract for the killing.
In a shocking incident in Kondhwa, Ganesh Kale (30), a resident of Yewalewadi, was shot dead in broad daylight near a petrol pump at Khadi Machine Chowk while he was driving his rickshaw. Four assailants on two motorcycles intercepted him, fired four bullets, and then attacked him with a sharp weapon (a koyta) to ensure he died on the spot, before fleeing the scene.
The Motive: Gang Rivalry
The murder is suspected to be a revenge killing stemming from a notorious gang rivalry. The deceased, Ganesh Kale, was the brother of Sameer Kale, who is currently lodged in Yerwada Jail for his alleged involvement in the murder of former corporator Vanraj Andekar (the son of gangster Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar). Police believe Ganesh Kale was murdered on the instructions of the Andekar gang members to avenge Vanraj's death.
Arrests and Detentions
The Pune police, acting swiftly, arrested two men—Aman Mehboob Shaikh (22) and Arbaz Ahmed Patel (24)—and detained two 17-year-old boys from the Khed Shivapur area within seven hours of the crime. The police have seized the firearms and motorcycles used in the attack.
Ganesh Kale's father, Kisan Dhondiba Kale (51), filed a complaint at the Kondhwa police station.
The investigation is ongoing to gather information regarding the source of the pistols and the koyta, the location where the conspiracy was planned, the involvement of any other individuals, and how the accused and the minors came into contact. The police have also booked nine people, including jailed gangster Bandu Andekar and his son Krushna Andekar, in connection with the murder.
This incident has once again highlighted the increasing trend of criminals involving minors in serious crimes.
