PUNE, 3 NOV. Despite some development work being completed, problems continue to plague Pune's Ward No. 2 (Phulenagar-Vishrantwadi). The primary unresolved issues include the stalled redevelopment of slums and old MHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority) buildings, leading to significant citizen dissatisfaction and a demand for immediate initiative from elected representatives. The ward, which encompasses sensitive areas like Yerwada Jail and various government offices, along with both slums and upper-middle-class localities, faces complex and varied challenges. Major concerns highlighted are severe traffic congestion in the Vishrantwadi area, largely caused by hundreds of encroachments by street vendors and unauthorized parking on main roads and footpaths. The ongoing construction of the flyover and grade separator at Vishrantwadi Chowk, combined with these encroachments, further worsens the traffic situation. Additionally, the rehabilitation of flood-affected residents from settlements along the Mula riverbank, such as Adarsh Indira Nagar and Shantinagar, remains a critical pending issue. Other problems include the stalled widening of the DP road near Agrasen High School and limitations faced by the Municipal Corporation in providing certain facilities to state government staff colonies due to official rules. The article notes that public discontent has increased due to delays in development work over the past three and a half years because of the 'administrator regime.'
