Land Acquisition for Fourth Platform at Hadapsar Railway Terminal Faces Hurdles

PUNE, 8 NOV. The development of the Hadapsar Railway Terminal as an alternative station to the main Pune Railway Station, which includes the construction of four platforms, is moving forward. However, the process is facing complications related to land acquisition for the fourth platform.

The objective is to complete the work on the Hadapsar Terminal by December, and related construction is progressing rapidly. For the overall development of the terminal, approximately 50 gunthas (around 54,000 sq ft) of land were required towards the Pune station side, and the acquisition process for that parcel has largely been completed.

However, there is currently a shortage of land required for the full development of the fourth platform.

Key Challenges:

  • Insufficient Space: While a Foot Over Bridge (FOB) is being constructed to connect all platforms from the first to the fourth, the current length of the fourth platform is 450 meters.

  • Need for Additional Land: To increase the length of the fourth platform, the Railways will need to acquire an additional 5,090 square meters of land.

  • Cost Barrier: The estimated cost for the acquisition of this required additional land is ₹40 crore.

The Hadapsar Terminal project is being executed under the 'GatiShakti Unit', with the station building construction under the 'Amrit Bharat Station' scheme. Most of the work is reportedly nearing 90% completion.

The full development of Hadapsar and Khadki railway stations as satellite terminals is expected to significantly ease the passenger load on Pune Railway Station.
