Southern California braces for flash flooding, debris flows as storm approaches
Los Angeles, 15th November 2025

An unusually strong storm system is expected to bring widespread rainfall to Southern California through Sunday, likely triggering flash flooding and debris flows, the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) said Friday.

The period of most concern is Friday night through Saturday night, according to the NWS.
Forecast models indicate that the plume of heaviest rainfall will set up directly over Los Angeles and areas immediately to the west, including communities around Malibu and the Palisades that were hard hit by last year's wildfires, the NWS said.

Given the plume's near-worst-case positioning relative to Malibu and the highly urbanized Los Angeles Basin, heavy rain over burn scars and urbanized areas could rapidly intensify flash flooding, potentially leading to moderate-level impacts late Friday night into Saturday, the NWS warned.

Officials urged residents in flood-prone or burn-scar areas to monitor weather alerts closely, avoid canyon and low-lying roads during periods of heavy rain, and be prepared for possible evacuation notices as conditions evolve.
