Pune: August 9 is observed across the world as World Tribal Day to honour the culture, heritage and struggles of tribal communities, particularly their historic fight for rights over water, forests and land. On this occasion, Savitribai Phule Pune University celebrated World Tribal Day with enthusiasm under the aegis of the Krantiveer Birsa Munda Chair.
The programme began with inspiring poetic verses highlighting the remarkable contribution and legacy of Krantiveer Birsa Munda. This was followed by a floral tribute to Birsa Munda’s portrait by Prof. Dr. Avinash Ade, Head of the Krantiveer Birsa Munda Chair, and Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav, Head of the Department and Director of the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension.
Senate member Prof. Dr. Rajendra Ghode, along with a large number of professors, officers, employees and students from various departments of the university, attended the programme.
On the occasion, the participants pledged to preserve the rich historical heritage of tribal communities and uphold the thoughts, ideals and legacy of Krantiveer Birsa Munda.
