Voter Poaching Tactics Send Shivers Down the Spines of Election Aspirants
Pune Municipal Election
After the Pune Municipal Corporation administration published the draft voter list, the practice of poaching voters has begun to emerge, causing sleepless nights for aspiring candidates.
PUNE, 21 NOV. Following the publication of the draft voter list by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration, the issue of voters being poached (transferred) has started to surface, causing concern among aspiring candidates. Hundreds of voters from one panel or ward have been shifted to another. In many instances, geographical boundaries have not been adhered to. On the very first day, aspirants brought numerous serious discrepancies to the forefront and are raising objections to the administration's work.
This sudden movement of voters between wards has become a contentious issue. The political aspirants who have been preparing for months in specific areas are finding that their targeted voter base has been unexpectedly transferred, fundamentally upsetting their election strategies. The immediate and visible flaws in the draft voter list have led to strong scrutiny and challenges being mounted against the municipal administration's process. The situation underscores the aggressive, often irregular, tactics being deployed as local political competition heats up ahead of the municipal elections.
