After raking up the issue of protests by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants and farmers, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Rohit Pawar has now launched an attack on Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, raising questions about the Election Commission of India's decision-making process.
Pawar interacted with the media on Thursday and presented a slide show titled "SIR - Election Commission's Misdeeds", through which he levelled a series of allegations against the poll panel.
He sought to draw attention to what he described as serious questions surrounding the implementation of SIR and the functioning of the Election Commission.
A key issue raised by Pawar was the authority behind the decision to undertake the SIR exercise.
Questioning who had actually taken the decision, the NCP legislator claimed that a reply furnished by the Election Commission to a Right to Information (RTI) application contained a startling disclosure.
Pawar sought to use the information obtained under the RTI Act to challenge the explanation surrounding the decision-making process and raise questions about the accountability of the constitutional body responsible for conducting elections in the country.
The presentation, according to Pawar, was intended to highlight alleged irregularities and inconsistencies in the Election Commission's handling of SIR.
