Social activist Bhai Akash Nirmal has demanded a high-level inquiry into alleged irregularities in road maintenance and repair works carried out by Maharashtra's Public Works Department (PWD).

The allegations relate to maintenance and repair work undertaken on the Manorwada Road (MDR-34) under the jurisdiction of the Bhiwandi Public Works Sub-Division. Nirmal has raised questions regarding the availability of mandatory approvals, technical records and testing reports associated with the project.

According to the complaint, concerns have also been raised over alleged payments made to the contractor that were reportedly higher than what was permissible under the prescribed rules and regulations.

Nirmal stated that he had sought information related to the project under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. However, he claimed that the concerned offices failed to provide the requested information within the stipulated timeframe. He further alleged that the information was supplied only after intervention by the First Appellate Authority, which had directed officials to furnish the records.

The social activist has submitted complaints to the concerned minister and senior government officials, urging them to conduct an impartial investigation into the matter. He has also called for complete transparency and disclosure of facts so that the public can be informed about the actual status of the project and any irregularities, if found.

The demand for a probe has brought renewed attention to accountability and transparency in public infrastructure projects, particularly road maintenance works funded through government departments.
