Pune, Correspondent

The Maharashtra government is in the process of formulating a dedicated policy for the empowerment of single women, including widows, divorced women, abandoned women, unmarried women and others living independently. As part of this initiative, a workshop was organized in Pune on the occasion of "Single Women’s Day."

The programme was jointly organized by the District Women and Child Development Officer, Pune, and the District Programme Officer (ICDS) at the Pune Zilla Parishad.

The workshop was attended by Ankita Patil, Anand Khandagale, Dattatraya Kute, along with single women, representatives of non-governmental organizations, women’s groups, social activists and researchers.

Participants discussed a wide range of issues affecting single women, including employment opportunities, property rights, children's education, housing support and improvements in the implementation of government welfare schemes. Suggestions were also invited regarding the need for new welfare initiatives, legal challenges, reforms in judicial processes, women's safety and greater participation in social and economic activities.

Officials informed participants that the recommendations and feedback collected during the workshop would be incorporated into the draft of the proposed Single Women Policy before it is submitted to the state government for consideration.

The initiative is aimed at addressing the specific socio-economic challenges faced by single women and creating a comprehensive policy framework to strengthen their rights, welfare and empowerment across Maharashtra.
