Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav today alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has ruined the healthcare system in Uttar Pradesh.
In a statement issued here, Akhilesh said that hospitals have deteriorated in the nine years of the BJP government.
"Government hospitals lack the necessary equipment, medicines, and resources. There is a severe shortage of doctors. Common patients are unable to receive quality treatment in government hospitals. Ambulances are not even available to transport patients to hospitals. All the BJP government's claims regarding hospitals and healthcare are false," he stated.
He said that heartbreaking news is coming every day about the poor state of healthcare in the state. "The BJP government has destroyed the entire system. Corruption and commission-taking are rampant under this government. There is massive mismanagement in the supply of medicines and other essential equipment, the consequences of which are being borne by the poor and patients. District hospitals lack resources, doctors, and
nurses, and oxygen plants are out of order," he said.
The SP chief said that even hospitals in the capital and major cities lack essential facilities. "Medical colleges and major institutions are overwhelmed with patients, but they are not receiving adequate treatment. The BJP government is not providing the necessary budget to the state's major medical institutions and medical colleges. Buildings have been erected in the name of medical colleges in district and divisional headquarters, but they lack testing and facilities for critical patients. The BJP government is unable to properly run the medical colleges and the Lucknow Cancer Institute, established during the SP government. The government's negligence and inaction have left patients and attendants helpless," he said.
He said that after coming to power, the BJP government has completely crippled the 108 and 102 ambulance services.
"The situation has become so dire that even pregnant women are unable to access ambulance services. Attendants are forced to transport pregnant women in their own vehicles, sometimes by bullock cart. Sometimes by tampering with the situation, under-the-radar lethal syrups were supplied under the government's nose. The Health Ministry and the government remained silent. BJP-sponsored corruption in the state is playing with people's lives," he alleged.
Akhilesh said that he is forced to go to private hospitals. "The BJP government has failed to provide essential services to the public, including health, electricity, education, and timely fertilizer and seeds to farmers. The BJP considers its achievement to be spreading hatred and diverting public attention," he said.
