Boating to Boost Tourism at Kas Plateau!

A new eco-friendly boating facility will be inaugurated on October 26 at Kas Lake, which supplies water to Satara city, on the banks of Venna Lake, Mahabaleshwar. This initiative is expected to give a fresh boost to tourism in the Kas Plateau region and create new employment opportunities for local residents. Villagers have demanded that local youth be included in the boating operations through jobs and self-employment avenues.

Tourist attraction at the heart of Kas Lake
Thanks to the efforts of MP Udayanraje Bhosale and Maharashtra Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale, Kas Lake has become a major tourist attraction. Steps have been constructed along the flow of water from Bhushi Dam’s spillway over Kas Dam, allowing tourists to enjoy the experience during the heavy rains of the past week. Millions of visitors have already enjoyed these newly developed access points.

Tourism to get a new boost
With the introduction of boating, local residents are excited about the prospects, as the initiative is expected to revitalize tourism in the Kas Plateau area. Providing employment opportunities locally is likely to reduce seasonal migration of youth seeking work elsewhere.

“During the flower season, this area attracts huge numbers of tourists. After the season ends, it is necessary to create alternative points of attraction on the Mahabaleshwar plateau. The Kas boating project will increase tourism, and many young people who migrate for work after the flower season will now find opportunities locally. This will reduce outward migration to some extent. We welcome this boating project as it offers multiple employment options within the region.” — Shankarrao Jambhale, Director, Kas Plateau Local Sons’ Association.
