Centre Approves Renaming of Islampur to Ishwarpur!
Mumbai, Representative
The Central Government has officially approved the renaming of Islampur city to Ishwarpur. The Survey of India has sent a formal communication to the Maharashtra Government confirming the approval.
The demand to rename Islampur as Ishwarpur has been pending for nearly five decades. It was first proposed by Pant Sabnis, then city head of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Over the years, several local leaders and organizations reiterated this demand.
Notably, Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray had also publicly supported the renaming during a rally in Islampur, urging that the city should be called Ishwarpur.
During the Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra Legislature, senior minister Chhagan Bhujbal had announced that the renaming proposal would be sent to the Centre. The proposal has now received final approval, officially changing the city’s name from Islampur to Ishwarpur.
