Cong hasn't fully accepted Shivakumar's leadership: Bommai

Haveri, June 8

Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai on Monday launched a sharp political attack on the Congress leadership, stating that Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has not yet received full acceptance within his own party, and that this internal situation is triggering a series of developments in Karnataka politics.

Speaking to media persons in Haveri, Bommai said Shivakumar, widely described as a "trouble shooter," still needs to establish greater credibility within the party structure. He added that leadership challenges would naturally emerge based on the decisions taken in the coming days, asserting that "there is no one else to manage his troubles now."

Responding to questions on reports that some BJP MPs were keen on entering state politics, Bommai dismissed the claims, terming them as products of "WhatsApp University," and refused to engage further on the matter. He reiterated that the BJP was focused on strengthening its organisational base in Karnataka.

Later, at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Haveri, Bommai issued strict directions to officials over the implementation of government schemes, warning that negligence would not be tolerated.

He stressed that welfare programmes must be executed in a time-bound and accountable manner to ensure benefits reach farmers, the poor and other vulnerable sections.

With the monsoon season underway, Bommai directed officials to ensure adequate supply of seeds and fertilisers, particularly soybean seed and DAP, warning against shortages or mismanagement.

He also took serious note of irregularities in the public distribution system, warning of strict action against illegal diversion of ration rice and ordering stronger monitoring to prevent misuse.

He further called for removal of ineligible ration card beneficiaries and strict implementation of crop insurance benefits for eligible farmers. Emphasising coordination among departments, he said key schemes like Amrit 2.0 and Jal Jeevan Mission must be effectively implemented, adding that Haveri should emerge as a top-performing district through efficient governance.
