Maha: SSC, HSC exam fees hiked by state board amid financial strain!
Nagpur, 25 Oct 2025
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has announced a hike in examination fees for students appearing in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC – Std X) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC – Std XII) examinations for the academic year 2025–26.
This marks the third fee increase in recent years, sparking concern among parents and students across the state.
According to official sources, the Class 10 (SSC) exam fee has been increased by ₹100, bringing the total fee to Rs 420. Students appearing for Class 12 (HSC) exams will now pay Rs 470, an increase of Rs 170.
The board stated that the decision was taken after evaluating its financial position and the need to maintain examination quality and infrastructure. An official noted that the hike was "unavoidable, given the surge in input costs and the reduction in revenue sources."
In Nagpur district alone, approximately 60,000 to 70,000 students appear for the SSC exams and around 40,000 to 45,000 students for the HSC exams annually.
While the board maintains that the rise is modest, education activists and parent associations have voiced concern over the growing financial burden on families, particularly those from rural and economically weaker backgrounds. The board is expected to release a detailed circular specifying category-wise fees and deadlines shortly.
