Pakistan's Home Minister Rana Sanaullah has given a big statement regarding Nawaz Sharif's return to Pakistan. He has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif will return from London as soon as preparations for the general elections begin in the country.

In an interview given to a Pakistani channel, Sanaullah said that Nawaz Sharif will lead the preparations of the PML-N for the general elections to be held in Pakistan. He also made it clear that elections will not be held in the politically important Punjab province on May 14, despite the Supreme Court's order and the efforts of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Significantly, former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif had gone to London in November 2019 citing treatment. When Nawaz went to London, he had already been convicted in a corruption case and was serving a seven-year jail term in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail. However, he was later granted relief for four weeks by the High Court due to medical reasons. Meanwhile, Nawaz fled to London and since then he has not returned to Pakistan.
