Nationalist Congress Party leader Umesh Patil on Thursday said he had met the Shankaracharya of the Karveer peetham to seek guidance on religious customs concerning marriage following the demise of a parent and, during the meeting, informed the seer about the date and venue of Member of Parliament Parth Ajitdada Pawar’s wedding.

Patil said a commonly held belief in society is that if a parent passes away, a marriage in the family must be solemnised within one year, failing which no marriage can take place in the household for the next three years.

To seek clarity on the issue, he said, a detailed discussion was held with the Shankaracharya of the Karveer peetham. Patil added that guidance was sought in view of the historical association of the Karveer Shankaracharya peetham with Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj and to understand the religious traditions and practices relating to such occasions.

According to Patil, the Shankaracharya clarified that while all prescribed religious rites and rituals following the demise of a parent should be performed in accordance with the Dharma Shastras, there is no religious requirement that a marriage be conducted within one year. He said there was, therefore, no reason for people to have any misconceptions on the issue.

Patil announced that MP Parth Ajit Pawar’s wedding will be solemnised in Baramati on February 27, 2027.

He said the engagement ceremony will be held on July 29, 2026, in a simple family function attended only by close relatives and invited guests.

Patil also said Parth Pawar’s fiancée is Kaiynaat Dara, who is originally from Chandigarh and is currently residing in Delhi.

He said certain sections of the media had recently published incorrect and misleading information regarding her name and place of birth. The clarification, he added, was being issued to place the correct facts on record and dispel any confusion.
