The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged misappropriation of donations from the Ram Temple donation boxes is reportedly preparing to register FIRs against five individuals. The development marks a significant step in the high-profile investigation, which so far has not seen any formal police complaint being filed.

According to sources, the proposed FIRs may include the names of Tinnu Yadav, Lavkush and Anukalp—individuals considered close to Ram Temple Trust General Secretary Champat Rai—from whose premises cash was allegedly recovered during the investigation. SIT officials have reportedly questioned the five suspects for more than 20 hours during the initial phase of the probe. Sources claim that several responses provided by the accused failed to satisfactorily explain key aspects of the case, further intensifying suspicion. However, final action will depend on the SIT’s findings and the state government's review of the investigation report.

Gopal Rao’s Karnataka Visit Triggers Debate

Amid the ongoing investigation, discussions intensified after Ram Temple construction aide Gopal Rao reportedly traveled to Karnataka on Sunday. According to reports, he attended an event where Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale was the chief guest.

The visit has drawn attention because there were reports that individuals being questioned in connection with the case were not expected to leave Ayodhya during the investigation. Photographs of Gopal Rao attending the Karnataka event have since circulated widely on social media, raising questions about the circumstances of his travel.

Gopal Rao May Be Removed From Temple Responsibilities

Sources indicate that Gopal Rao, who has been associated with temple construction and management activities since 2022, could soon be relieved of his responsibilities. Although he does not officially hold a position in the Ram Temple Trust, he has reportedly played a significant role in operational matters related to the temple.

With the primary construction work nearing completion, his continued involvement is being reviewed. Meanwhile, speculation is also growing that senior trust functionaries, including Champat Rai and trust member Dr. Anil Mishra, may gradually step away from administrative responsibilities in the coming months, citing health and other reasons. No official announcement has been made regarding such changes.

SIT’s Preliminary Report Runs Into 140 Pages

The SIT team investigating the alleged irregularities in temple donation management left Ayodhya for Lucknow late Saturday after completing its initial round of inquiries.

Sources suggest that the preliminary report spans nearly 140 pages and contains detailed documentation of evidence, statements and financial findings gathered during the investigation. Officials familiar with the probe believe the report could form the basis for disciplinary and legal action against several individuals.

Some temple volunteers and staff members could also face termination if negligence or procedural violations are established.

Investigation Period May Be Extended

The Uttar Pradesh government had initially granted the SIT 15 days to conduct its preliminary investigation, with expectations of an interim report within the first week.

However, investigators have reportedly examined a much broader set of materials than originally anticipated, including financial records, CCTV footage, appointment-related documents and operational procedures connected to temple administration. As a result, the SIT may seek an extension of the investigation period to pursue additional leads and verify emerging evidence.

During the first six days of the probe, officials questioned several trust-linked individuals, employees and suspects while simultaneously scrutinizing documentary evidence.

Government Monitoring Developments Closely

Given the immense religious and national significance of the Ram Temple, the Uttar Pradesh government is closely monitoring developments in the case. Officials are expected to review the SIT’s preliminary findings before deciding on further legal and administrative action.

Sources suggest that, depending on the final conclusions of the investigation, the government may introduce stricter financial oversight mechanisms and transparency measures to strengthen the temple’s administrative framework and ensure greater accountability in the management of donations.
