Mumbai, June 11

Hundreds of residents from the MHADA New PMGP Co-operative Housing Society in Mulund (East) staged a protest march to the MHADA headquarters in Bandra, demanding immediate action on a redevelopment project that has remained incomplete for nearly 19 years.

The redevelopment project, which involves 1,399 society members, began in 2007. However, despite the passage of almost two decades, 606 residential units and 47 commercial shops are yet to be completed by MHADA authorities. As a result, affected residents have been facing significant hardships and uncertainty for years.

According to members of the Janakalyan Residents Development Committee, residents had repeatedly sought meetings with MHADA's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Vice-President (VP) over the past year. However, they alleged that they were unable to secure appointments with senior officials, prompting the committee to organize a protest march to the MHADA headquarters on June 9, 2026.

More than 250 affected residents participated in the demonstration. The protest also received support from Namdevrao Jadhav, founder of the Chhatrapati Shasan Party, along with the committee's legal advisors.

Residents claimed that despite it being a designated public grievance day, senior officials left the premises after learning about the large gathering. Protesters further alleged that they were prevented from entering the MHADA building by security personnel stationed at the entrance.

Following the protest, a delegation of residents, accompanied by Namdevrao Jadhav, held discussions with officials in the offices of the CEO and Vice-President. During the meeting, MHADA officials reportedly assured the Janakalyan Residents Development Committee that a formal meeting with the affected residents would be convened at the earliest to address their long-pending concerns.

The residents have demanded a clear timeline for completion of the remaining units and shops, stating that they will continue their efforts until the stalled redevelopment project is completed.
