To assess the extensive damage caused to banana plantations by unseasonal rains and hailstorms, District Collector S. Karthikeyan visited farms in the Garapur area of Madha Taluka and inspected the affected fields. Interacting directly with farmers, he assured them that the administration stands firmly behind them during this difficult period.

The recent hailstorm has caused significant damage to banana crops across the taluka. Strong winds and heavy hail led to the uprooting and destruction of banana plants, severely affecting expected yields and farmers’ incomes. In response, Collector Karthikeyan, accompanied by officials from the Revenue and Agriculture Departments, conducted an on-site inspection to evaluate the extent of the losses.

During the visit, he gathered information from farmers regarding the nature of the damage, its financial impact, and the assistance they expect from the government. He instructed officials to carry out damage assessments accurately and without delay, emphasizing that the administration would make every effort to ensure eligible farmers receive assistance under government norms and guidelines.

Farmers also shared their concerns and hardships with the Collector. They pointed out that rising production costs, unpredictable weather conditions, and fluctuating market prices had already put them under financial strain, and the hailstorm had further worsened their situation.

Offering reassurance to the affected farmers, Collector Karthikeyan directed the Agriculture and Revenue Departments to work in coordination and prepare an objective and comprehensive damage assessment report. His direct interaction with farmers and field inspection has brought a sense of relief among the farming community, which now hopes for swift implementation of relief measures.

The Collector’s visit to the affected farms following the hailstorm has highlighted the administration’s sensitivity toward farmers’ issues and strengthened hopes that the affected cultivators will receive timely support and justice.
