PUNE, 7 NOV. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police has arrested a Bangladeshi woman in the Bhosari area of Pune for illegally residing in India for the past seven to eight years after her visa had expired.

The woman has been identified as Fatima Amjad Akhtar (35), a native of Bangladesh. She had initially arrived in India on a valid visa in search of work. However, she continued to stay illegally even after her visa term ended.

During her time in Bhosari, she was living and working as a domestic helper under the false name 'Mala Vitthal Davkhar alias Fatima Begum Faimuddin'. In a shocking revelation, the woman also got married to a youth from Karnataka while living in the area. Her husband was reportedly aware of her Bangladeshi citizenship and the expiry of her visa but failed to report the information.

The ATS acted swiftly based on a tip-off and took Fatima into custody. During the preliminary inquiry, she admitted her true identity, and no valid documents were found in her possession.

A case has been registered against her under the Foreigners Act for the visa violation and illegal stay. The police have started the necessary investigation and initiated the process to deport her back to Bangladesh. The action taken by the Pimpri-Chinchwad ATS, based on secret information, has been widely commended.
