PUNE, 5 NOV. The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) has made public the detailed blueprint for the proposed expressway project connecting Pune to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (formerly Aurangabad). This ambitious project will be developed in three phases, aiming to make connectivity between Pune and the Marathwada region faster, safer, and seamless.

Project to be Completed in Three Phases

According to the plan released by MSIDC, the project will be completed in three stages:

1. Phase 1: Construction of the Pune-Shirur Elevated Corridor.

2. Phase 2: Development of the Shirur-Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Greenfield Expressway.

3. Phase 3: Finalization of the Pune-Shirur Greenfield Expressway.

Among these three phases, Phase 1 is currently the most active. Financial bids for this phase were recently opened, with Welspun Enterprises emerging as the L1 bidder (lowest bidder). The project contract finalization process is now in its concluding stages.

Industrial Integration Between Western Maharashtra and Marathwada

Sources indicate that the Pune-Shirur Elevated Corridor aims to alleviate existing traffic congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow to the industrial belt. Additionally, the proposed Greenfield Expressway from Shirur to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar is expected to boost new industrial and economic activities in the central part of the state.

According to MSIDC officials, this project will not only significantly reduce travel time but also provide a new direction to the logistics network. The approximately 225-kilometer stretch from Pune to Sambhaji Nagar will be developed as a four-lane or six-lane expressway, incorporating state-of-the-art safety and smart traffic management systems.

The State Government believes that this expressway will accelerate industrial integration between Western Maharashtra and Marathwada, promoting balanced regional development. The project is expected to bring a historic change to the state's transport map in the coming years.
