Farmers’ distress on paddy procurement: Vijay slams DMK!

Chennai

Squarely blaming the DMK government of MK Stalin for the farmers distress as huge amount of paddy kept at procurement centres having been drenched in the rains in the Cauvery delta districts and elsewhere, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay today warned of the rising tide of resentment which will pack home the ruling dispensation.

Breaking his month-long silence after the September 27 killer stampede at Karur during his rally, Vijay, in a statement, charged the government with being responsible for the damage and destruction of harvested paddy.
“Not only rain during this season is a recurring one, farmers being deprived of the fruits of their labour because of the state government’s insensitivity is a continuing one. Because of the government’s failure in taking steps to address this perennial issue, farmers have been left in the lurch,” he said asked the government what were the steps taken to constructs sheds and yards and prevent waterlogging in farmlands by diverting rain and flood waters in check dams and other storage facilities.

“With the north east monsoon yet to continue its spell, the government should take expeditious steps and help the poor farmers and the people rather than engaging in empty propaganda. Or else, the brewing resentment among the people and the farming community will grow further like the sprouting paddy bags and send the government packing home,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, Vijay has reconstituted the TVK Executive Committee to carry out the day-to-day running of the party. The first meeting of the 28-member body, chaired by Vijay, will be held on Wednesday (October 29, 2025) at suburban Panaiyur. Interestingly, this is the first time that the party is coming out in the open after the Karur tragedy. And it comes close on the heels of Vijay meeting the families of the victims of the stampede at Mamallapuram on Monday and apologizing to them and assuring them to stand with them till the end.
